The philosopher Thomas Kuhn used the duck/rabbit optical illusion to illustrate Paradigm Shift; a phrase that he coined to describe the ensuing change in understanding follow a scientific breakthrough. He used the duck/rabbit illusion to demonstrate how when such a shift occurs you are suddenly able to see and understand a thing, a phenomenon, a set of data, differently despite the fact that you are still looking at exactly the same thing as before.
